The Combat Medical Badge (CMB) is awarded to Army medical personnel, such as medics, physicians, and physician assistants, who are assigned or attached to a medical unit of a brigade or smaller size that provides direct support to infantry or Special Forces units. The recipient must have performed medical duties while engaged in active ground combat. The medical duties must have been performed satisfactorily while the medical personnel were actively treating and evacuating wounded soldiers under enemy fire.
The Combat Medical Badge was established on March 1, 1945, during World War II.
